Introducing our newest staff member – Steve Githens!

We’d like you to meet Steve Githens, who will be joining the staff of the KTB.  Steve will be easing in to his new position, working a couple days each week starting in January, but will rev up to full time after finishing another project to which he is currently committed.

Steve grew up in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and has Computer Science and Bioinformatics degrees from Michigan Tech. After discovering Linux his freshman year, he became an open source software evangelist and spent the next five years developing open software stacks for education at Northwestern University, the University of Cambridge, Indiana University and other places.

More recently he has moved the IU School of Medicine where he has developed a passion for health informatics and has been involved in various initiatives in Kenya for prevention of mother to child transmission of HIV and cancer screening programs.  Steve is excited to join the effort at the Komen Tissue Bank to continue building out their data capture and tracking systems.

In addition to working on software, Steve is involved in various forms of progressive activism and enjoys training for triathlons and doing Ashtanga Yoga.
