We will be welcoming a fresh batch of summer interns here at the KTB, and as always, we want you to get to know them too. Before we go further though, we wish a bittersweet goodbye to our intern for the last semester, Jessica Nordhoff, who is about to graduate next week from IU Kokomo. Jessica was an outstanding addition to our team. We will miss her, but we’re excited she is off to do great things and we wish her well!
And so… The KTB welcomes Mackenzie Shumaker as one the first summer intern to start work this year, although she’ll soon be joined by 2 or 3 more. Mackenzie is 20 years old and has just completed her sophomore year IU Bloomington, majoring in Health Administration through the School of Public Environmental Affairs.
She found out about us through volunteering during Indy’s Super Cure as a teenager. For that event Mackenzie participated as a tissue and blood runner, and has since volunteered twice more at events, the most recent time taking on the task of hospitality.
Mackenzie was born and raised in Veedersburg, IN, which is 70 miles west of Indy – “in the middle of nowhere” says Mackenzie, although that obviously has done her no harm. She grew up there with her mom and dad who are in education and insurance respectively, her younger brother and sister, and the family dog Zellie and new puppy Hank.
Mackenzie was 10 year 4H member, and in high school was on the swim team and was the president of her high school class all four years! As far as interests outside of school, she loves to spend time with family and friends and is an avid scrapbooker, although she hasn’t had the time to do that as much since entering college. After graduation from IU Mackenzie would like to work for a couple of years then possibly look at going to grad school.
While here with us this summer, Mackenzie will be tasked with assisting with social media updates and working on a couple of long-term projects. Please help us to welcome Mackenzie!
