Register to Volunteer
The Komen Tissue Bank holds several tissue collection events each year.The final one in Indianapolis for 2012 will be held on November 3rd. There are two more upcoming events being held out of state this year, the first on June 9th in Louisville, KY, and the second on September 29th in Chicago, IL. We will be accepting local Indianapolis volunteers for both of the out-of state events. A bus will be available for transportation to and from the cities on the event day. Volunteers will be able to sign up for collection events beginning approximately 4-6 weeks before the event date.
If you wish to receive volunteer emails, and you are not already on our volunteer list, please send an email to komentb@iupui.edu with the following information: Name, email address, the best telephone number at which to reach you, how you heard about us, and which volunteer job(s) you would be interested in performing (see list below). Please write the words “Interested in Volunteering” in the subject line. We will get back to you as soon as we can to confirm your interest.
While we are sorry that everyone who wishes to will not get a chance this time to volunteer, we are so excited about and grateful for the overwhleming response to our call for your participation. If you were unable to reserve a shift this time, please try again for the next event. Thank you for your dedication and support.

- Consenter (required to complete online CITI Course in the Protection of Human Research Subjects)
- Surgeon Assistant

- Floater Duties (to be assigned on day of event)
- Donor Escort (guides donors from station to station)
- Please note that on the volunteer signup, there is also an option for people to come in from 3pm to about 6pm on the Friday afternoon before an event to help us set up.
Volunteer Jobs Outside of Collection Events
We do occasionally have a need for help from our volunteers at times other than during our tissue collection events. This may include stuffing envelopes, assisting with a project being run by one of our staff, or working on projects that may require some comfort with computers and Excel. For these tasks volunteers are notified of the need by email and sometimes are able to complete tasks at home in their own time.
Qualifications
With the exceptions of Consenter, Phlebotomist, Laboratory Assistant, Surgeon/Radiologist Assistant, and Computer Assistant, there are no particular qualifications necessary to have as a volunteer, other than a great attitude and an ability and desire to follow specific directions.
